According to recent reports, we are exposed to hundreds of volatile compounds daily.  Some of the factors affecting indoor air quality are from:

The environment: outdoor particles and pollution leaking into homes, radon

A result of daily living: cooking, smoking, cleaning supplies, soaps, detergents, solid/spray/oil air fresheners, candles (both scented & unscented)

Appliances, electronics and mechanical equipment - air conditioners, copiers, computers, lighting and electronic equipment discharge gasses as they create heat from within.

Biological sources - molds, mildew, bacteria, viruses, dust mites, pet hair and dander

Combustion - furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces

Cleaning and maintenance compounds:

Building materials: insulation, chipboard, plywood, particle board.  Materials made from petrochemicals: foam insulation, furniture, flooring of all sorts, plastics, paints, stains, solvents, glues, adhesives, PVC and CPVC items, adhesives, caulking, or anything with an odor.
