Most people drive every day. Yet occupants of a vehicle are not protected from air pollution because many pollutants are more concentrated in the car than outside.
Numerous studies have shown that pollution within a vehicle can be 10 times higher than outside air. The type of vehicle doesn’t matter. The materials used to manufacture that “new car smell” is a toxic mixture of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), just as in the home.
You’re not safer traveling by bus, train or plane, either. These vehicles have heavy concentrations of toxic compounds including formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, carbon monoxide, fuel fumes, cleaning agents, viruses and bacteria.
Every day travelers end up feeling ill during or after a trip. Perhaps someone nearby had a cold or virus, or the air was full of toxins. Whatever the case, it’s important to protect your breathing space.
Masks are uncomfortable. We suggest you use a personal air purifier and consider a purifier for your car, boat or RV to protect your breathing space.
